Tony Williams was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica and moved to England, A legendary Reggae DJ, Producer and pioneer in the industry, and celebrating over 30 years in the business, it is no surprise that he has created a new and innovative venture in live, interactive radio with www.rhythm365.com
From an early age, Tony was drawn to the rhythmic sounds of reggae and was particularly fascinated with “Beard Man Shuffle”, a tune by Ernie Freeman, which played an instrumental part in forming his obsession with Reggae music. By the 1970’s, the buzz of reggae music was escalating and Tony got his break when he became a BBC radio presenter. Tony then embarked on a journey that still continues today, to bring reggae music to the fans in Britain and ultimately worldwide.
In the mid 1970’s, BBC Radio London called Tony to do a new reggae show called “B&B” which later became “Reggae Rockers” and then led to “Rockers FM”. Tony brought fans the best in reggae music from Jamaica and the UK and drew the spotlight on the reggae industry, which secured him worldwide acclaim. He was the only DJ with a weekly reggae show that presented interviews with major reggae artists... Tony hosted the show for 13 years.
In the 1980’s, Tony became a producer and formed a record company called “Master Funk” where he began producing records under the name of “Funk Master”. In 1983 he produced a new type of sound with “Can’t Believe It’s Over” by Mandy Newton, which shot to number 2 on the national charts earning Tony international fame and an appearance on Top of the Pops. Tony has also received several industry awards such as the Annual British Reggae Industry Award (1981), the Annual Rockers Award (1983), the Entertainments Enterprise Award (1987) and in 2002 he was recognized by the Black Music History Day Achievement Awards for his contribution to the British Black Music Industry. In addition to producing and prestigious awards, Tony campaigned for 14 years to obtain an FM license and in 1999 he put in a bid for a North London FM license. While waiting for approval, Tony was introduced to a web cast show, which led to the birth of www.rhythm365.com.
In April of 2003, Tony celebrated the official launch of Rhythm365 with support from major reggae artists and the music industry.
